Cofactor Defined
An ion or molecule whose presence is essential to the activity of a ribozyme or deoxyribozyme. Presumably, the ion or molecule is held in the active site of the enzyme and used directly for catalysis, though the term cofactor is often used even when mechanism has not been rigorously tested.
