Bowel Cancer Indicator Should Lead To Better Treatment

STEM cell scientists have developed a more accurate way of identifying aggressive forms of bowel cancer, which should eventually lead to better treatment and survival rates. The UK-led team, headed by scientists from Durham University and the North East England Stem Cell Institute, (NESCI*), studied tissue samples from 700 colorectal cancer patients and tracked their progress.

  • Antioxidants and Other Nurients Do Not Interfere wtih Chemotherapy or Radiation -- and can HELP!: There is much confusion these days about whether the powerful antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables -- ordinarily such excellent friends to good health -- are safe to eat while a person is undergoing medical treatments for cancer such as radiation and chemotherapy. Well, here is a medical review article that looked at 50 (!) human studies in the medical literature on that very question. After reviewing all that research, the authors concluded that it shows that antioxidants "enhance the killing [of cancer cells] of therapeutic modalities [like chemo and radiation], decrease their side effects, and protect normal tissue." Isn't that what we all would wish from a medical treatment-- that it work better, have minimal side effects, and protect our healthy cells?
